How can I help my child with times tables?

DS (year 4) is great in all other areas of maths but really struggles with times tables. He has mild autism which effects his executive functioning and processing. Can anyone recommend any resources to help? He uses Times Tables Rockstars but gets stressed by the timer.

This thread has brought back good memories of enjoying these songs with my son. This man has the set of times tables among his videos. (see Mr. DeMaio)

This is another vote for Table Fables - no stressful timer, fun cartoons and when you’ve finished them all you get a soft toy! We’ve done it twice and he loves his Fables elephant and tiger.

We’ve also (end of Year 4) rediscovered the Numberblocks on BBC iPlayer. They’ve got a cartoon with a song for each table, across series 5 and 7, and you can get the songs as an album on music streaming services. We’ve tried other music versions but these are really catchy.

The other thing I’ve learned to our cost is that it’s not just a question of learning the tables - you have to keep going with them or you forget again. A parent of an older child has recently told me that they’ll start to stick in long-term memory when they need them all for more complex Maths in about Year 6. Till on that day!

Online wise, there is Hit the Button and Beat The Clock https://mathsbot.com/puzzles/beatTheClock

Beat the Clock is slightly better as you can decide your own time limit to practise in.

We used Times Alive. My ADHD son really took to it well.

make sure your teaching the whole sum
ie 9X2=18
not just 9,18.27 etc because ive seen kids having to count the whole sequence to get the answer (Y4 times tables check needs speedy answering)
