Options for deferring Reception in London for summer born

We are considering deferring Reception for our summer-born boy, who is also very small (5th percentile for his age). Does anyone know of transitional programs where he could go for the deferral year? Note that he is currently in his third year in all-day nursery, and it is probably not an option for him to repeat there next year.

You could consider a small pre-school like St Andrews in Islington or Ready Steady Go in Primrose Hill. They run from 2-6 years, with a small Reception class (because they feed to certain preps which start from age 5 for summer borns). But the hours are short and even the wraparound option doesn't run very late (I think until 3pm instead of 2pm).

There are lots of private nurseries that take children to age 5 (as a summer born your child will only turn 5 towards the end of the school year there). Where are you based?

We are in Kensington, close to Notting Hill as well. Thanks for your guidance!

I deferred my eldest, who just did another year at nursery

Don’t know that area I’m afraid but as pp said, nurseries can just keep them on. Would suggest ringing round local ones, sure it won’t take long to find one that can help. Good luck!

Would you consider a school nursery?
