School with waterworks problems

Our school has a major problem with its water supply which will involve major work being done - which with a bit of luck can be done in the next long holiday. At the moment, though, there there are only 6 working loos for 421 children and staff. There is one drinking fountain.

The caretaker is so far doing a very good job of keeping the loos clean and the school is providing bottled water for people who forget to bring their water bottles in with them. School dinners are being "bussed" in from another school nearby. The Education Authority has said that the school isn't allowed to close (the head asked whether he could when the problem was first discovered)

How long would you be happy for this to go on for if it was your school? Indefinitely? Not at all?

Our primary school is falling to bits,in fact, two years ago we had a long fight against closure,we were even on the telly but it is such a lovely school and the children are happy and achieve really good educations,my attitude is that as long as all health and safety issues are addressed and the children are not in any danger it is not a problem.

how do your children feel about it?

I agree - I'm just not sure when, despite best efforts 6 loos for 421 people becomes hazardous. I am of the "Oh it'll be all right" school of thought myself, but I would be interested to see if anyone disagrees with me (I know some parents at the school are up in arms already!)

I have a 7 year old boy - I don't think he's noticed!

if your ds is fine I would forget it. Not that bad IMO

Just had another thought, they would probably bring in portaloos if breaking any legal limits. They are horrible especally for small children, but the kids seem to love them.

Thanks. I'm canvassing opinions because I am a governor and I want to have some idea of what I'm going to face in the playground tomorrow. Glad it's not going to be an enraged mob!

They still do have facilities, albeit restricted ones - it could be worse!!

I wouldn't complain; things need fixing, they will be fixed at an appropriate time (ie with no kids in the school and enough days to get it done) so it's not like it's forever.
