Hi all

We have just learnt that my DS has cleared the first round for Habs (we hadn’t prepped or tutored him). I am clueless about how to best use the next 2 weeks to get him ready for the second round. Any info or tips on Habs second round for 7+ from experience would be helpful.

thanks!

Have you done any mock interviews with your DS? Get hold of a tutor who does this, if maybe too late for that tbh. In that case just do one at home and recreate a live scenario.

Ask your DS questions that an interview scenario would contain. Get your DS prepped up on what behaviours to exhibit when assessed in person at the school while talking to teachers and especially in a classroom environment where they will be assessed. It's just not the intelligence, or how smart you are, the teachers are trying to assess the situation holistically and then will have a discussion with with the head. Round 1 does carry a weightage but the school typically tries to band them in terms of Round 1 scores and then overlay Round 2 performance

Thank you @OliRules . Will do some interview simulation at home but agreed that we’re a bit late to be thinking of tutoring. Will do the best we can, thank you for the helpful guidance.

  1. Mock class room situation
  2. Mock interview
  3. A written up profile about your child: This needs to be a honest profile. It does help the child introduce themselves without getting lost or carried away. The more honest the profile, the more conviction the child has. It needs to be concise.
  4. Mannerisms - every child has a different personality, however, some basic manners go a long way in convincing the teacher that the child is easy to handle
  5. Attention span - Is the teacher able to keep the child engaged?
  6. Curiosity for learning
  7. Reading habits - the variety of reading, the amount of reading
  8. Respect for rules and habit

At 7+ a child can't be expected to outperform on all the above but these are loosely the things that a private school would look at. I advise my students to go for one or two sessions at the max for a R2

Hi! Just wondering how your DS got on in the end? Have you made a decision about where to send him?
