How to help a lazy speller

Have just got back from dd 1's parent evening to be told she is a lazy speller! How can I help her? Should have asked teacher I know but didn't really get the chance. She is very resistant to homework at the best of times & I just wondered if you had any good tips to make things easier. Other than that she is a very bright girl.
Thanks

bubping this as my DS has the same problem. Can spell for a spelling test, but makes mistakes on simple words in writing.

I doult she is lazy. I expect that she probably has not been taught to spell in a systematic way. This is a brilliant book called "Superphonics spelling" by Ruth Misken.

If you do one page a day of this book, it will teach her STRAGERIES for spelling difficult words. I have been using this book with my son and it has made a huge difference to him.

A child who learns by rote for a spelling test often forgets the words the following week. This book is structured and shows ways of remembering difficult words.
