But he keeps changing the story. i was a bit annoyed anyway,as they are supposed to get out at 3.30, but by 3.45 I was still, along with parents of toehrs in his class standing in the playground. he was in school showing the teacher some homework he had done about 3 weeks ago. Surely to goodness the class time is when she should be looking at homework. Anyway, he is crying, and first off said he had no lunch becasue he was kept in. Then he said he was kept in becasue he had written ten lines of writing about their school trip, but she said it wasn't enough. then he said it wasn't exactly ten lines, and so on. the story keeps changing, but he is really upset, and doing the usual "no one likes me,even you and dad, you ahte me, etc" .
Not sure if I should call and ask to speak to the teacher or not

I think I would call the teacher and see what she says.

Assuming that he is in infants, if he is that upset, then yes I would try to find out. Not to intervene, but I think that you should at least understand what has caused such upset.

It's rotten when they feel so upset about school/life in general. My dd (9) also only gives me half a story.

TheApprentice · 12/03/2008 16:12

Yes, definitely call her. Try to be calm and get her side of the story before making anyn points you need to. Good luck, hope ds feels better soon,

I often get the impression that his teacher doesn't like him, or me very much. A couple of times I have been in to see her, when Ds2 has been with me and the way she has spoken to him has really unsettled me, and I didn't say anything to her at the time as I didn't wnat to undermine her as a teacher in front of DS.

Definitely call the teacher to have the matter cleared up.

Ok called the teacher. it turns out that he did get kept in at lunchtime,a dn she was ahving a serious chat wiht him about his work. In the past 2-3 weeks his standard of work has gone right downhill. She said all he had written on teh page today was the date. I can pinpoint it back to when he started with this rashy/virus type thing, so don't know if it's anything to do with that. She says he never mentions it at school. I told her he ends up with me dressing him in the mornings and she said "well he does it for PE".
Apparently his work before half term and the virus was great, obviously doesn't like writing but was of a good standard. She wants me to go in on friday to see her

Well done to get to the bottom of it. Hopefully he'll feel better after the holiday.
The being kept in at lunchtime may not be such a dreadful disgrace; in ds's class (also Yr3) anyone who has not completed their homework has to do this as a matter of course. Ds lost his homework last week and was most upset, but calmed down when I pointed out that being kept in might not mean that the teacher was terribly angry with him, but simply that this was a piece of work that had to be done so that he could learn.

Doodle - our school just has Good Friday and easter Monday off, then they are back to school, until the 4th April when they break up for 2 weeks

Hope it went ok today Saltire. It must be horrible to feel that your ds is not liked by the teacher.
