Hi all

DD is in reception and today at the school gates the parents agreed on all putting money together towards the teacher & TAs Xmas gifts.
There's no indication of how much to give.

What would you think it's the norm?
I was thinking £25-£20 but DH has made me anxious that it might be too little?
We're really not sure.

Any idea ?

If all the parents are putting in I'd put £10 in, all together that's plenty to get a decent gift.
No one in dd school do christmas gifts for the teachers they do for end off year tho.

caringcarer · 20/11/2023 23:57

£5 - £10 seems to be the norm for Xmas and £10 for end of the year.

lessnotmore · 20/11/2023 23:58

That seems generous. We've put in £40 for the teacher + TA to cover Xmas and the end of year (July). The class rep sets the amount which I think is best for everyone. They buy John Lewis vouchers

Most people normally do £20 at my school (to be split between 3). I wouldn't worry it's too little op.

Depends where you are. Our school class averaged at about £50 but that divided between teacher, TA, kitchen/office/ ground staff etc. and then a small individual gift for the teacher eg bottle of wine also.
But again, really depends where you are. If in doubt, it might be worth asking the class rep what the average is? Usually the reps have children in older classes so are better placed to gauge what the norm is for your school.

Too much if anything. A tenner is ample.

DGPP · 21/11/2023 14:14

I put in £25 to be split between teacher and TAs per class.

DGPP · 21/11/2023 14:15

£10 between 3 staff is £3 each. Often there are 4 staff no?

£5-10 is normal at our school. And it’s signed from everyone whether they put money in or not.

If there's 20 kids in the class at a tenner each there's 200 even with 4 teachers it's £50 for a give each!

I’m a teacher and would be horrified to think parents were feeling that they had to spend that much on me for Christmas. A lovely card, with a personalised thank you message. After all, that would be the only thing I would keep anyway.

DiaNaranja · 28/11/2023 20:00

We usually put in £10 each. 30 parents, makes £300 if everyone gives. Then it gets shared between teacher and t.a(s) main teacher usually gets something like £100 gift card, flowers, chocolates and wine. T.as if there are two, get £50 gift card, flowers chocs and wine. If more than two t.as, it gets split to make sure they all get the same.

morechocolateneededtoday · 28/11/2023 20:40

We give £30 each for the whole year. Approx half at xmas and half end of year but sometimes end up spending more on one of the two. Gift vouchers for teacher and TA and also tend to order staff room breakfast/lunch on one day for everyone so back office and specialist staff also get something

flowerygloves · 28/11/2023 20:44

Omg just put in a pound!!!!! Don't go overboard. I suggested this on a different post but you could pool it together and donate to the food bank in the classes name?
