"On track" Scotland

Can any Scottish teachers explain how a child can be "on track" with regards to education when their spelling age has been assessed as 12 months younger than chronological age?

On track to finish the year way behind? Or have parameters now been set so low that we deem this acceptable?

Genuinely struggling to understand and not much clarification given via school except DD is "on track"

Background. I have raised concerns regarding spelling since P2 now P4. Being monitored to see if she needs dyslexia screen. But information fed back thus far is that even with a dyslexia diagnosis she wouldn't qualify for additional support as she's not at a low enough level

Thanks

IME there isn't a screening re age related levels and spelling levels in use. It depends on the milestones, benchmarks and CfE level they are working at and that's where 'on track' comes from. For example 'on track for spelling 25 common words at the start of first level' is different from 'on track for spelling first 100 words within the first level'...... Its quite wooly in many places if you aren't familiar with it.

What is your concern re DC's Literacy skills? She may have missed a stage of learning earlier on and hasn't had any intervention to correct. See my post on Scots net re teaching of literacy in Scottish schools for very helpful sites for parents to read up on and get head around the terms.

Thankyou. I'm concerned that her spelling is poor, especially in comparison to other areas of learning.
I will check out your posts :)
