So, if an 8yo boy cries floods of tears because he doesn't want to go to school....

....this is not good, is it?

He said he felt sick but I don't think there was actually a physical problem.

I can't find any reason for being particulkarly unhappy with school, except that he just doesn't like it.

Are some children just totally unsuited to school?

Dd1 has only been HE this school year, ds1 has had school misery for longer than this.
Dd1 is HE because one girl in her class would not allow the others to speak to her. It was a long-running situation and even with school intervention didn't resolve. I thought another year of such negativity was really not on.
She will be going to secondary school in September.

Julienoshoes - I wish things were simple enough to allow me to HE all dcs with no worries. However, the school is good in many respects (the teachers are wonderful) - if we were living somewhere else, I think I would just have to HE.

I think the writing thing can be a pain. They seem to have to do a lot of writing in yr3. Dd (who is also crap at writing and dislikes it and can't really do it) went through a phase of crying about school and a lot seemed to be because she was 'made' to do lots of written work.

I do think some children react to school better than others. But I don't think that means they would suit home educating any better necessarily.
