Hi (my 2nd post today) just had our post and dd will not be attending the same primary as my son as we are now out of catchment - i had hoped having a sibling at the school would be enough but obviously not!! Cant believe it - the school run is going to be impossible! I am not in London by the way. Has anyone else had similar news? Is it worth appealing? This is just more for me to sort out.

Sorry you got bad news today. Do you have a copy of their selction criteria? at ours its this:-
Special needs
Children in social care
Children with siblings in catchment
Children with no siblings but in catchment
Children outwith catchment but with siblings
Children outwith catchment no siblings.
I think to appeal you have to prove that the school have not followed their selection criteria, or that you are an outstanding case. I think they are legally restricted by numbers in Reception classes, but I seem to remember someone got their child into the school they wanted even though it put reception class over limit because the school as a whole was under subscribed. I tried to find the thread but couldn't.
Good luck

Thanks for your comment, How do people manage the schoolrun though - that is my main worry that one child is always going to be late getting dropped off and picked up.

Not much help I know, is there anychance the school your youngest has been accepted at would have a space for your eldest too? Not ideal I know, but a possibility. Are any other parents locally going to the same school that could drop off or pick up? Is there a breakfast club you could utilise?

Appeal. got to be worth a go we did last year and got in.

Does the school you want your dc to attend have a January intake? Call the school and ask about waiting lists, where would you be on the list? you would be surprised the number of children that don't accept a place, for whatever reason.
It's always worth trying your appeal, like I said before though, you have to prove the decion mad was a poor one and that the process was flawed. Although I have a friend who went to appeal for her dd and got a place just days before the hearing as someone withdrew their child!

Think I will have a chat with sons head teacher on Mon morning and see if its worth appealing. The school my daughter is now due to go to is not meant to be as good as the other one so would be reluctant to take my son out of his school, plus we had a chat about this before and he was quite distressed at the idea of moving schools.

Hello, Can anyone advise? I didn't get my preferred choice primary school for my ds (oversubscribed)- i live in an area where the form only allowed you to name 1 school. The one i have been allocated is not one i like, but there are 3 others in the area that i like very much - apart from asking to go on the waiting/reserve list of preferred school, what do i do now? Phone all other schools i like in the hope they have a place or contact the education authority? Will the schools know tomorrow how many spaces they have left for sept 08? I don't want to miss out again but feel a bit worried.

One of dd1's scghool frineds in reception had 2 siblings at another school, 10 ins away.
The mum ended up having to pick the little girl up 10 mins early to get to pick the other sup in time.
She did get a place in yr 1 though.
