Best schools in Bromley for shy, sensitive kids

It’s so hard to pick schools! I don’t care so much about academics. I want a school with a focus on kids wellbeing, it can be private or regular. I’m open to all options at the moment as long as it’s not all about academics. My 5 yo is in Y1. She is a sensitive kid. She’s quiet and can easily be forgotten in a crowd of loud kids.

Where she goes now I can’t drop her off anywhere near her classroom, she has to go alone or a teacher may take her but they are never too keen because there’s lots of kids coming at the same time. Drop offs are really hard for her. Also, the communication with parents is terrible. She struggled a lot in Reception and they got her to see a special teacher with a few other kids but no one even mentioned it to me until I requested a meeting. She only saw this teacher a couple of times I think. Will never know for sure because no one tells me anything.

The school has a good academic reputation but that’s not enough for me. I have a younger daughter too who is going into reception next year so I want to see what’s out there so they can go together.

We’ve seen Bromley High, Pickhurst Academy, we’ll soon visit Edgebury and I’m open to suggestions or opinions on what we’ve seen. I want to make the right choice this time.

I don't know the area well but I think if you want a small, nurturing environment often private schools are the way to go. State schools, even the smaller ones, will have 30 children in a class and the massive cuts in education have meant staff numbers are being cut and so there are just not enough adults to offer children the time and attention they may need.

If you are considering Bromley High and can afford it for both then go for it - also look at Babington House which has more of a family feel.

The 'catchment' areas for Bromley schools are relatively small and therefore you may not have much choice, particularly if you are hoping to secure places for both. You might consider schools which only have a 1 form entry for example.

Pickhurst is three or four form entry so there will be around 90 to 120 children per year group.
