GL and atom testing disparity

We've just had results back from the school with regards their year 6 testing.
They use several programs over several days to try and get a more accurate result. I've asked them a few questions but they've gone a bit quiet.

Maths - great - maxing out the scores - as expected, they are the maths whizz
English - SAS 74 - decile 3
Verbal and non verbal - decile 4 - 94/95

My query is does a disparity of over 40 marks sound right? Is there likely to be something else going on here? They are eloquent but quiet. Not the most keen reader, but still manages to do it every day, definitely reading at an average level. They have a good understanding but may miss subtleties and hidden meanings.

Their sibling is on the spectrum and the school is pushing to get them tested too. I've never been convinced this is the case, I almost feel as though it is an easy option for the school to palm it off.

Just stumbled on this post. I’m not a teacher but I would say there’s no harm in having your child tested. That disparity is wide & may mean your DC needs extra support with English & that support may help them in the long run. In my experience schools are not always forthcoming when it comes to suggesting testing for SEN so the fact that your school are suggesting it probably means it’s worth pursuing. Hope it all turns out well.
