Hey!

I am looking for some nice reading books to purchase at home to encourage my 6 year old with his reading.

He is "working towards" where he should be so would like to help him out at home, so also any reccomendation for apps / online resources that you've used?

Thanks !

The Read with Oxford series are good. Lots of choice and all the books are made up of a selection of short stories so manageable. You should be able to find some that match his interests.

My daughter also liked the ‘I am Reading’ series (Yetti Spaghetti, The Giant Postman etc)

Mine (y2) are enjoying ‘peanut, butter and crackers’ series - comic style, and fairly straightforward vocab. They get a real sense of accomplishment reading ‘real’ books (not the ones specifically marketed for phonics / early readers), and are more likely to pick those up on their own. Others that have been good are DR Seuss, the Pigeon series, Elephant and Piggie (which has very few words but has been very satisfying for them to read independently). All of these are probably easier than they can manage, but are silly and enjoyable, and have helped build confidence to pick up a book and give it a go on their own.

For fresh early reader books (what we use when we read together), the library near us is great- they are much more likely to read willingly if it is something they have picked out.

Mine loved teach your monster to read.

I also used reading chest which is a banded book loan subscription site. They enjoyed picking their books from the website and each liked a different series.

I'll also second the library for early readers.
