4+ tutor or classes

Hi all,

I would greatly appreciate tutor recommendations for 4+ exam who could prepare for North London schools.

Or any good educational weekend classes that would also be helpful for the exam, too.

Thank you.

If your kid is at one of the good north London nurseries they'll already be doing more than you need. Anything formal on top of that will just be overwhelming and counterproductive. Just don't slack at home at continuing being a great parent, taking them to see stuff, arts and crafts, cooking, books, etc - they'll be fine

He is not in the North London nursery; we are looking to move now. His current nursery is very good and contributes greatly to his development but I’m afraid it may not be targeting the same goals as nurseries prepping for private schools.

No tutors needed for 4+, just talk to him a lot, converse about different subjects, let him draw and focus on detail, read to him, jigsaw puzzles, take his to museums and art galleries. Personal advice, don’t put any pressure on him, just let him be happy!

I wouldn’t recommend tutoring as the target schools can tell who has been tutored and who are naturally bright. I know a couple of children that didn’t get any 4+ places despite intensive tutoring.

Absolutely this. Excellent advice.

Take a 3 year old to art galleries?! Do you think they’re going to ask for a critique? This seems mental to me. I say this as someone with two children who did the 7+ and a supporter of private education. However - I think it’s more looking at the process at the schools you’re interested in and building confidence in talking to other children and adults and good listening…..
