Hi

Has anyone got any experience of Aps? I'm thinking of sending ds there but I'm unsure about starting him in nursery instead of reception.

My friends boys go there and she has been very happy with it. What are you unsure about reception and nursery?

The issue I have is the nursery, it was indicated that if he does not attend the nursery he will not get a reception place. He is currently at an outstanding montessori where he's just finished his inital phonics and is moving onto basic word building CVC in the next few weeks. In the nursery they would be at this stage at the end of the summer term.

I just feel he wouldn't be making any progress as he is already used to sitting at a desk and routines.

Sorry but he sounds very young to be sitting at a desk, and for you to be worrying about progress he's making in literacy. What about the value of learning through play. FWIW I know my friend is very ambitious, and her son has just sat the MGS entrance exams. She seems to think the school prepared him well. The whole thing makes me shudder at the pressure of it all.

You get the rest of your life to worry about success, interviews, exams etc. Why start at 4?
