Ideas for education over summer

I would like to help DD 9 with spellings/reading/maths etc to build her confidence back up over summer, as she has fallen slightly behind in some areas.

I am not meaning we will be spending 6 weeks holiday home educating..... but maybe ways in which we can cover spellings or improve times tables, encourage more reading and generally get her back on track.

Any tips, games, books you can recommend.

My children are a little bit younger than yours, so can’t advise on specific resources, but some strategies that are working for us include:

  • set a specific time early in the day (for us right after breakfast) to do the ‘work’. Typically 30 mins or less doing 2-3 worksheets based on last year’s curriculum (so practicing things they should know rather than new content)
  • before any screen time they have to do 10 mins on the reading app recommended by their teacher (Nessy)
  • We have a summer long project (a summer memory book) for them to practice writing in a fun way
  • i look for small opportunities to practice key skills in a small way (baking, out shopping, etc) which might include writing lists, doing practical math, etc.
  • summer reading challenge - they get 1p for every page read, and try tO keep up our normal reading routine all summer long

We do atom learning, just 10 mins or so a day, my daughter loves it, feels like a game to her
