Is this supposed to have been happening? If so, what form does it take? Thank you.

Bumping in hopes of answers. My year 3 has had a very disappointing report and he was supposed to having catch up sessions with all this funding but he's had "a little extra help" according to his teacher. He missed a lot of time in reception and year 1 due to me being shielded. He's been bullied up to the past term and despite that has come on leaps and bounds and puts in a lot of effort at home and teachers are pleased when I speak to them but then give the poor report. He's bright and is very chatty about what he has learnt or is learning. I'm going to speak to his teachers but wanted to check about the catch up funding and what it entails.

When your title said covid catch up I assumed you were asking about boosters & we’re just in the wrong topic, or were confused about the ages for the vaccine or something.
Maybe a different title would help with responses in case others read things as daft as I do? 😂

Hi, yes it has been happening in one school I know in my area (which isn't to say it's not happening elsewhere but I only have 1 example!). My friend who used to be a deputy head and just wanted casual work after having her baby has been employed for 2 years by a local primary school for these catch up sessions, specifically funded by the govt. She takes groups of 3-4 kids out of the class for extra English and maths every day, I think there is a morning and afternoon session. It's her last day tomorrow though as I believe the funding has come to an end now.

I think there should be something about the use of catch-up funding on the school website.

My y6 never had any catch up. Nor y2.
They are running extra club for advanced maths though ,🙄 so that could be where they are spending it.
I would just carry on working on stuff at home.
How bad is disappointing? Not met? Or far below or just not exceeding?
Bear in mind my y6 missed almost a year (between y3 and y4) with lockdowns and strikes etc etc and the class have still met or exceeding.
So lots of progress y5 and y6.
How were his ks1 sats last year?

Looking at my dc school it was very little this year maybe 6k!!
But lumped in with the disadvantaged funding.
However what there was has been used on supporting phonics and speech! Which is pretty crazy as only y2 upwards missed any school. So phonics shouldnt have been affected. Possibly speech? Maybe.
However the disadvantaged data was interesting it said of 8 y6 last year only 3 passed sats. 2 failed and 3 disapplied as send. Which is obviously a.very.high number send and disapplied!

Anyway the rest of our school report makes clear kids are unlikely to get wny of the 1-2-1 help or groups unless they are disadvantaged.
