Hi. Just wondering if I should ask teacher for feedback regarding the change. They have recently done end of year 5 maths and reading tests. I thought it may be useful to see the tests and gaps so can work on areas. My Ds is under a tutor for 11+ and performing really well. I guess lots of factors come in. I don’t want to be out of line asking though 🙈 Possibly overthinking this. I was genuinely surprised but I guess in Ds primary class I can imagine quite a few distractions. His mock test for 11+ was performed in very quiet, calm conditions. Thanks.

The maths for eg steps up a lot and like you other kids start getting tutoring.
Theres lots of kids who have made huge improvements between y4 and y6.
Some who i djdnt expect to get near exceeding.

If state primary the marks for sats are very high dd got 92% and only 113 on sats.
You need to aim to get 100% on the arithmetic

Was your child's mark under 110 but previously categorised as greater depth and you're wondering what happened on the day- or was it over 110 but called 'expected'? I ask because we had marks at over 111 categorised as expected ( they didn't have a greater depth mark for any score on the exams) but the accompanying letter said anything over 110 was considered greater depth.

The teacher said arithmetic was very high. A few word problems were incorrect. Shall focus on that. Unfortunately they don’t keep the papers after marking. Thanks everyone :)

It may well be opinion.
I expect some schools can only have certain number exceeding.
So dd never was for maths because unlike your school they didn't do tests. However has done on the sats. But i think its because say 50% of the year here ended up getting exceeding on the sats so making it seem dd wasnt as good.
Without the sats she would still only have met.

Im sure it was much better with levels.
d d was exceeding at spag at 7. But nothing shows she may have made no progress since then.
I think it has also led to at ks1 kids not being stretched so they can appear to make more progress later

They may also not say exceeding yet even if the mark may indicate exceeding as SATs are national tests so they need to confirm what counts as exceeding after appeals etc and some schools may be being more cautious than others

Hi. Yes they do have very high expectations. That’s a good thing I guess. We shall carry on through the summer with extra work and cross everything for the 11+ in September :)

Some kids become aware they are being put under pressure, and stop trying so hard as they lose the intrinsic motivation.
Also kids do not develop in a straight line, so some are above/below the average then move back to the average or even more extreme variations over time.

In tutor he’s getting top marks so I imagine a blip on the day. Thank you
