Dear all,

We’re looking at the Sevenoaks (and immediately surrounding areas) and we were wondering:

  • what primary schools do you recommend? We’ve seen St Thomas is the only one with an Outstanding rating - but we’re probably wrong and there are for sure tons of other awesome places.
  • where to live? Ideally next to the train station and the school in the same time (magic may be required)
  • tips and tricks regarding living in the area

Thank you in advance!

Riverhead is probably the area you'll want to look at. Riverhead and Amherst are highly sought after schools and it's close to the station. What's your budget?

All of the primaries are pretty good. Especially:

Riverhead/ Amherst
Lady Boswell's (CoE)
St John's
Seal is lovely but a bit outside Sevenoaks
Sevenoaks Primary

If private is of interest then it will depend on whether you have girls or boys.

The south side is a popular area to live but isn't near any primary schools and is quite a walk from the station.

I would recommend looking around Hollybush area - a very easy walk to town, the station and Knole Park.

The Montreal estate is also nice.

This thread is a month old so appreciate this might be too late!

Just to offer a different perspective from someone in one of the surrounding villages, you will get more for you money not in Sevenoaks town. Riverhead is nice but a walk up hill to the station and the commuter traffic snaking through it every day isn’t great.

Seal I’d rule out as it’s not got a train station. Depending on the size of your budget, take at look at Otford and Shoreham (both are really really pretty and have their own train stations and good Primary schools). For bigger & cheaper properties, look at Borough Green, Platt, Ightham & Wrotham. These villages are pretty much joined up - Borough Green has a train station with frequent trains into either a Victoria or Charing Cross. Wrotham/Ightham/Platt are lovely old villages with period properties and easy access to countryside. The Primary schools in these villages are either good or outstanding and at Secondary level, children are in catchment for the grammars in Maidstone as well as Tonbridge & Sevenoaks (Maidstone is 13 minutes by train from
Borough Green and the Maidstone grammars are less over subscribed).
