Just wondering if anyone's used this, whether it was any good and how easy it was to follow?

I've never heard of the scheme but would be wary of a spelling programme that doesn't spell Stairway correctly. Even if it is done purposefully by the company.

To me, it's like Nurseries that use 'Kidz' as part of their name.

I've had a little internet search, to find out what Stareway to spelling is. and do 100% agree with the concept that some children are really helped in the development of their reading by learning some high frequency words by sight. Its been out of favour to acknowledge that some dc don't learn to read solely by using phonics for some time now, but being out of favour doesn't necessarily mean it is right.

Not totally familiar with that programme but agree with the above that children who find reading difficult do need to learn common words by sight. It's a system l have used for years and seen good progress.

Thanks for the replies! I guess it's name plays on sight words but yeah bit daft. I'm prepared to overlook it if it's a good resource! School have just listed some options and left me to it, I have no way of knowing which to go with. Others are Alpha to omega, bear necessities, the word wasp.

My daughter won't be helped if it's sight learning though as her visual learning is low. I'm looking for something a bit multi sensory or that breaks words down a different way.

Is she struggling with reading or just spelling? The book is a follow on from toe to toe (it's red, I can't remember the exact title) which is a series of exercises for people struggling to learn phonics. It's very "dry" but gets good results as far as I can see. We are not very far through it! That is very much repetitive progression through sounds.

Look at their website and there are a few videos that explain the book and who it is for.

Spelling is the main issue but her reading is also a bit behind. She has poor team work between her eyes that plays into that. Her phonics knowledge is good and she could read any word she was given. But she skips or replaces words when reading lots of text.

Hi op

did you start this and if so how you getting on. I have a DC who is 10 his reading is excellent he’s at greater depth for it however his spelling is appalling I’m not sure if it’s a confidence thing or a genuine learning issue. Would stareway to spelling be worth a go with him. He struggles to spell basic words such are “four” or “who” even though he can read them

Hi @Fire9636 in the end we've been using nessy reading and spelling, which is a specialist programme, which is like a game. It's good. We've been advised to do it 3 times a week. It cost me £60 for the year.
