It's the second hardest decision.. Football team was the biggest. The family all tried to influence but we held firm and Arsenal won eventually.
My main focus is on having my son flourish academically but not at the detriment of everything else.
He is very "advanced" for his age. He turns 4 in summer.
We live next door to the civic centre and so St.Gs, Bk and La F are are closest as well as Scotts park and St Joseph's and Parish
I agree with all the comments on La Fountaine.
We went to the open day last week and I definitely grilled the head teacher.
I was very impressed with the head teacher and the facilities. The available development budget for the massive gym indicated a school that has the ability to grow on quality even further.
I also loved they teach French instead of Spanish.
My biggest reservation is the sterile environment and also the stark difference in the reception environment and year one onwards. It does really feel cold. But it's obviously not impacted academic achievements. I agree on the home work point.
The second reservation is the lack of TA's after reception. The schools idea being they want kids not to be reliant on TAs
I disagree on this point with the head. I feel extra set of hands is always a beneficial.
On St.Gs I again agree with the points you've highlighted. This was our number one choice before the actual search started.
We like that each class had a dedicated TA.
We are a religious family but of a different faith. We are happy for values to be taught regardless of faith. But concerned at such a young age to focus our son on another religion when we still haven't fully introduced him to ours.
We missed the open day but had a small groups tour last week also. The school felt very warm and well rounded. The play are was definitely smaller and green area were non existent.
On Bk again I totally agree. It felt like my own primary school (80's child) warm and good around. But no one thing stood out as super barring the play area.
I liked that parents are allowed into the school at pickup and they also teach French.
The head teacher being at the school for 7 years for me was a positive although not gaining an improvement in that time on the ofsted report is something that also played my mind. St.Gs and La F have both improved in the past 5 years in Ofsted.
We are hoping they do another open day in January so we can hopefully go through and ask questions.
I'm not sure on full facilities as we were only allowed in the halls and open area.
Parrish Primary
This was the first one we visited last week.
The school has great space and history but seemed very hectic. Felt it was to big and 15 teachers calling in ill on that specific day didn't help. Buildings felt run down and 900 kids definitely would take a toll on everything.
St Joseph's
Not been yet but January have booked an open day.
Scott's Park.
Again not been and are trying to get an open day.
Harris Academy.
We are going tommorow. It's a little further out but have heard good things from a family member that's worked at the school as a TA.
The catchment area historically has been big enough that we possibly could get in if choose it.
On the whole all the schools are good and we are spoilt for choice. I've gone through all the data on the schools from. Ofsted to Level 1 - 2 results aswell as demographics of achievements and the higher tier results percentage.
The schools pupil size and historical breakdown of mix of boys to girls....I definitely have too much time.
Currently St.G and Bickley are probably top of the list.
La fountaine we just have a feeling that we'd loose/extinguish something with our child at the cost of academics.
But this top 3 all changes on any given day.
Another super long reply.
