Job share Y1 primary class teacher- impact on children

Just after any thoughts from primary school teachers. My daughter is going into year one and will have two teachers- one for 3 days/week and the other for 2. Any thoughts from any teachers among you whether this is good or bad for the children? I’m worried about the lack of continuity and whether there ends up being one ‘main’ teacher and the other just fills in for the 2 days. Thoughts?

Just read you plan on " scrutinising " all your children's teachers

So if they don't come up to your standards you will hound them out of their job with your " parental input"

Hope a few parents start doing this to you

Well, quite. And the thing is, the kid will have shit teachers, particularly when it comes to secondary. That's how buggered the education system is right now. Hound them out and they are replaced with....no one.

@Shinyandnew1 its a big 4 form entry primary so if I had received lots of replies from people saying it wasn’t good for example for their shy child, then I might have asked to meet with the teacher to talk it through and see if a different class may be better. Sounds like I needn’t be concerned so I won’t waste the teacher’s time with a meeting

Meet with the teacher?! To say what? You don't approve of teachers having kids?

noblegiraffe · 06/06/2023 21:34

My post was in response to pimplebum and not the poster making misogynistic comments.

Wnikat · 06/06/2023 21:36

If you’re going to try to move your child’s class every time they get a teacher with small children then their education is going to be rather limited

Imred · 06/06/2023 21:37

I'm reporting, this is obviously bogus and a Daffodilpost at teachers

How do you expect the deputy head to fulfil her responsibilities if she was teaching a class five days a week?
it very common in lots of schools for leadership to teach some of the time but also have time out of class in order to plan, supervise, hold meetings etc so then the class has to be taught by someone else. This happens in most schools.
i understand you are seeking to look out for the best interests of your child and ensure they are well taught and happy. But please try to take a grown up view of how schools need to be run in the best interests of your child and all the others.

The only other primary schools I’d come across had the senior leadership team covering for the class teachers’ PPA time and therefore not responsible for a class.

Well the deputy head may well be a very good teacher, so why not have her/him responsible for a class half the week rather than just filling in for the odd hour

It always surprises me just how much some parents think they know how best to run schools, teach dozens of children etc. it’s harder than it looks.

Imred · 06/06/2023 21:40

OP you sound like my manager who also shouldn't be a teacher.

You appear to me missing the point of my post. My post was about classes having split teachers rather than a discussion on the merits of children having kids

Her needs? Does she have special needs then? Or is she just “special” 🤦‍♀️.

You don't have a choice
What are you planning on doing about it if we all said it was bad ?

I’ve answered this above

Are teachers not entitled to job share if at all possible?

SparklingMarkling · 06/06/2023 21:44

Yes and it wasn’t feasible. What if those classes are full and she can’t transfer? Plus you’ll unsettle her moving her away from potential friends she’s already made. How would that benefit her?

You have no business in scrutinising this arrangement when your kid goes to a state. Suck it up buttercup. If you feel that strongly about it transfer her to a private school and then you might be allowed an actual influential say.

I think that is quite unnecessary, crikey, there’s no such thing as healthy debate now, before it descends into rudeness.

We all have our different opinions.

For the record I’m very lucky to have lots of other like minded mum friends

Christ. I feel for those teachers with you lot as the mafia then 😂. Ridiculous.

Reluctantadult · 06/06/2023 21:50

My son has this at the moment and we've really not had any issues at all.

Glitterbaby17 · 06/06/2023 21:51

My daughter is in Y1 and has had job share teachers this year and in reception. I think it’s brilliant - they have all been very experienced, and having the flexibility to job share I suspect has been a factor in the school retaining them. All really lovely, all different strengths, all know my quirky kiddo well. There was a change mid year in reception as one left but she actually liked the new one more.

Orangepink5 · 06/06/2023 21:54

Thanks so much for the helpful and reassuring posts. A shame this post got derailed into so many other discussions. It’s been quite eye opening seeing what people type from the safety of their phones. I’ll be leaving it there.

I mean there is taking an interest in your children’s education and then trying to find out personal details about their teacher. Where does this stop? Do you check up whether your GP works part time or has young kids?

I am honestly shocked that someone in teaching thinks this is ok. Surely you trust your children’s school and the professionals working there unless there is an actual problem.
