Teacher not reporting a head injury to parent

Sorry I'm mainly just after a rant as I'm really angry and know I have a right to be. My daughter went on a school trip today. On the trip she was knocked/pushed over she said pushed but I'm hoping it was an accident and a child stood on her head. She has a heel imprint on her head behind her ear and on her ear. The teacher said it's ok she will be fine!
Are you kidding me she didn't even check her.
And the teacher didn't even bother to inform me of it.
It was hard enough to bruise and it's still swollen and painful it happened at 9am.

Many years ago when collecting my DS from nursery they told me that he had fallen headfirst from a slide. He did look strange, and other parents commented about his appearance in a shocked way. I took him to A&E, who checked him over, and let him go, giving me a leaflet about head injuries. All fine afterwards. However I will never forget the utter panic driving to the hospital when he became drowsy. In my opinion the nursery should have contacted me immediately, bearing in mind he was looking not right physically. I didn't complain to them, but the next day I mentioned the accident book. Accidents happen, but I will never forgive them for their lack of care immediately afterwards.

A & E checked, found nothing wrong, gave you a leaflet, let him go and all was fine - but you'll never forgive the nursery for not telling you sooner.

So you overreacted and needed educating on when a head injury is a concern.

Would that overreaction also include my GP surgery who told me to take him to A&E?

kenstaylor · 07/06/2023 20:48

You also need educating on how fragile a child’s head is. If your kid comes home drowsy with a bumped head from school and you don’t seek medical advice then your under-reacting

CompleteUnknown · 07/06/2023 20:50

Not to mention his appearance, which a number of parents commented on

Well I am glad you're just a troll, and not just another embodiment of an people being utterly unreasonable and unpleasant.

You had plenty of times to correct my incorrect assumption, based on my understanding of the phrase "go mad" in this context, and my many experiences of parents "going mad" at school staff, without first getting the full information about incidents.

What does 'ahah' mean? Are you a little lacking in comprehension?

kenstaylor · 07/06/2023 20:58

call it what you like. I don’t do correcting people’s assumptions when they’ve flew off the handles at a two worded comment that in no way stated I’d go mad… at the teachers. That’s your own narrative, so I let you run with it.

If you don’t know what ‘ahah’ means then side eye

I don't remember flying off the handle. That's an assumption you've made based on two words I wrote.

Agreed I could have asked rather than assumed, but you decided to double down rather than correct my assumption.

Think I'll leave this thread given OP seems unlikely to return. Hope her DD is OK.

wildfirewonder · 07/06/2023 21:04

I would send a written query asking them to confirm what happened, who was aware, what was done and ask why you were not informed.

I'd want it on the record and a reply.

TizerorFizz · 07/06/2023 21:28

I do wonder if the teacher hasn’t reacted appropriately because of how it occurred? Was if witnessed and what happened in the aftermath? Did DD cry and was she escorted to the teacher? Or did it get lost in a melee? That is not to excuse anything if protocol was not followed but I can see why there might have been a misunderstanding.
