Mid year school admissions appeals help!

I have recently applied for our 2 sons (Y3 & Y4) to move to a school closer to home. We have received the outcome of our applications this week, and unfortunately 1 son (Y3) got a place and the other (Y4) didn't.

I have filled in an online form to appeal the decision. Looking for any advice from anyone who has been in a similar position! Were you successfull in winning the appeal? We are planning on accepting the offer for our son in Y3, in hope that it helps.

Once your youngest starts, your eldest will most probably move up the waiting list, as most primaries will have a sibling priority criteria, but do check.

in terms of appeal, in Year 4, you are looking to show that the prejudice to the child of not attending is greater than the prejudice to the school of taking another pupil.

Transport, siblings etc are not really relevant, though if your current journey is very long it is worth mentioning - how far have you moved, and have you moved into a new admissions authority?

When I needed to move schools, I sat on the phone for a day and rang round every single primary school asking if they had space. If they didn't have space to take them, I didn't apply.

Surely you would have known there was no space at the school?

If Year 4 has 34 kids in the class already, what's the point of appealing?

Get your y3 dc into the new school asap. Once he is on the roll then the very next time a place becomes available in y4 your y4 child will have priority as having a sibling already on the roll.

Unless of course there are three other children on the waiting list for Y4 all of whom have siblings - and live nearer.

Also depends on the over subscription priority policy

Where does it say there are 34 in yr4? Confused

This is not guaranteed. Some schools don't give sibling priority. Some only give sibling priority if the older sibling is at the school.
