I have just decided to enter my dc for the 11+ exam to be sat this coming September. I realise Ive left it super late but I think he has a good chance with some focused preparation.

Can anyone give advice on how to go about it? I have the GL practice papers as a start. Any channels on youtube that may help? Are Bond books good for the GL 11+ assessment?

Thank you

Many of the grammar schools near us do mock tests which are good to see where you are at - you may be too late to book on the more popular ones though.

You need this website
elevenplusexams.co.uk as every region of the uk is different.

Thank you I will have a look at that site. Thank you re the mock exams, I was hoping lots would be going on over summer but I guess most people will have been studying for the last year and will just be revising/mocks

Any advice on materials? I will register with the site above

I'm guessing you are not Bucks or Kent or you wouldn't be starting now but you need to say where you are aiming for, you could be in Northern Ireland etc.

Apologies trying for Ilford County - Redbridge

As there is lots of info on the school's website and it's the first time they are using GL you will probably be in the same situation as the other candidates.

Personally, I would recommend going to Atom Learning and getting your child to do some practice tests and learning, this would show you their stronger and weaker areas and then you or a tutor could cover any weaker areas. Atom learning teaches them the techniques too on the learning journey part.

Ask locally/Facebook/Other parents, in Kent, most of the tutoring companies or self employed tutors offer mocks week, during the holidays to help with test conditions familiarisation. They are starting to advertise their dates now.

Yup, agree w the pp about Atom. I found it very useful. DD also began her prep end of May in year 5 and she did well. She got into all the schools she applied to and will be going to G&L. Although, she did not apply to any Grammers, so it might require more prep. Good luck!

DC has been using Atom Learning and quite likes it. It offers free trial, no harm to have a try, if you do not like it, just cancel within 5 days.

ATM, they are offering £30 off (after the free trial): atomlearning.com/p/md4b5dOI

Or use the discount code: md4b5dOI

The GL and CGP books are good. They have them on Amazon. If you can’t book an official mock you can buy the GL mock tests. My tutor advised around 30 mins a day (with a day off) through the summer of work. It depends on the school as my Ds is only doing maths and English. The website for the school should also have sample papers.

We only started 5/6 weeks ago.

Redbridge 11+ exams are on the 15 th September, so you haven’t got much time. The English / reading and maths components should be familiar territory, but imo you should focus on the non verbal reasoning tests, as these are tricky for children who haven’t seen them before. Most tutors in the area spend time teaching the children about the different sorts of solutions to look for, mirror images, rotation, sequences, pattern changes etc. You will also need to focus on exam techniques, reading the questions carefully, answering the questions that have been asked, about checking answers, not spending too much time on puzzling questions but going back to them if you have time.
