Nessy vs Literacy Gold

Looking at these for primarily my DD 9 but would like my DS 6 to use too.

Nessy we have done a free trial and seems to find it ok but I’m finding it a bit hard to judge the impact and if she’s learning much from it. It has only been a few days though and worried she will find babyish after a little while.

Literacy Gold the claims of improvement are great. It seems comprehensive. It’s quite expensive and I can’t work out if it can be used for multiple children.

any recommendations or other suggestions please?

We use Nessy in school and it’s fantastic.

Tbh neither worked for my dyslexic DD. She struggled to use what she learnt in online platforms in class work.

Thanks that’s one of my concerns tbh

What improvements are you mainly looking for?

Spelling mainly and fluency in reading

Reading eggs - see if you can get free trial. It worked well for DS.

My DD has very severe dyslexia and i tutor dyslexic kids. I like the apps as they make things fun, but they're unlikely to significantly help your child in the classroom. I know they're loved by schools but I find kids often make a lot of progress on the app, but can't put that knowledge onto paper.

For fluency I would suggest this if your child can already read but struggles with comprehension and fluency:

For spelling:

This is an amazing programme. You need to do the placement test and buy the workbook and teachers guide separately. The teacher's guide is often available on eBay cheaper. This is so so simple and improved spelling and handwriting quickly. The instruction are simple enough that your older child could do it with the younger.

The problem with these interventions is they're costly in terms of time. Both of these together will probably take 40mins daily. Ideally one should be done in the morning, the other after school to avoid overwhelming the child.

My Mum is an additional needs tutor and she swears by Nessy. We got it for my very reluctant worker child during lockdown and it definitely helped. Couldn't get him to do anything else!

It's a well run, researched back, programme.
