School uniform: How many?

Hello,

We will be new to school this September and I have no idea how many clothes to get.

I have a boy, how many polo shirts, jumpers, trousers etc he will need. I would think one new for each day of the week?

Also, I really like the logo clothes, would it be nice if I can afford it when I calculate the end bill to get it all tops with logo.

Lastly, they have a school jacket again with logo, I quite like it, are they good jackets anyone who has purchased one before?

In reception we had 3 jumpers and 3 trousers and 5 polo shirts but only because these were cheaper then the rest.

I did a mid week wash every week as he needed new trousers and jumper every day.

As the uniform polo shirts are pretty much the only ‘white’ (they’re not white so much anymore) clothing we have in this house, my kids have 2 weeks worth to save a mini wash just for the polo shirts. Plus we both work full time so thinking about if school uniform is clean or not isnt something I have much head space for. With the grey bits of uniform, when they were in reception these needed changing every day but now she’s in year 2 they last a bit longer.

We also pick up bits from hand me downs from friends and from the second hand uniform sales. Kids grow so quick that the stuff is in great condition.

Very similar here but PE was twice a week so two sets required, and they changed in and out of it at school so also needed uniform on those days. Polo shirts and trousers / skirts from Tesco and branded jumpers / cardigans from the school outfitters.

We are in our first year post uniform and it's bliss.

Standard practice at DD's primary, PE twice a week, was that PE kit stayed at school and came home each half-term for washing.

I expected to be able to get 2 days out of trousers & jumpers so only bought 2 of each.
Regretted that decision when I realised after week 1 that children could play in the mud kitchen whenever they fancied, and for messy play it was left to them to decide whether they wanted to wear a bib-thing over their uniform or not. And most days, my son still loves to wear his dinner rather than eat it.

Husband and I both work full time so couldn't keep up with the washing/drying, so ended up buying more to ensure they had a clean uniform for each day and I only had to worry about getting uniforms ready at the weekend.

Bought logo stuff the first time round but won't bother again.

I'd say 5 polos, two jumpers and 4 pairs of trousers. One pe kit they usually keep at school then change it over or wash it and send it back every half term

Minimochi · 01/05/2023 17:01

DS is in Reception. We usually have enough for the week and a spare.
He doesn't like polo shirts , so he's got 5 school t-shirts (one is his PE top), three or four hoodies and various hooded jackets (the school uniform supplier sent us those instead of the hoodies I had ordered). He's also got four polo shirts that he's growing out of.
We have one pair of school jogging bottoms for PE.

I tend to get stuff second hand a lot of the time. I also get 20% off at the school uniform shop and have slowly started to get the next size up because I'd like to avoid the long delivery times in the summer.

Find out about PE. My local school asked them to wear pe kit all day on pe day. Most of my local schools started doing this during during covid so that the children didn't change and still do this

seratoninmoonbeams · 01/05/2023 19:46

I always had two of each trousers and jumpers and five shirts. These were for boys too and was always fine.

Just ordered 5 x logo jumpers, 5 x logo polo shirts, book bag and a logo PE t shirt and it cost £92! Wondering whether 3 jumpers would have been enough now

If you're working and don't have the opportunity to do a wash every day then I promise you it'll make life easier! I never bought logo though, he had the Tesco jobbies!

Yes, I’m a teacher myself which is why I thought to get 5 of each so I can get the whole week organised on Sunday. I’ll pick up some plain polos too.

Qqbank01 · 03/05/2023 14:28

My year 2 kid got:
3 white polo shirts (no logo)
3 school logo sweat shirt
4 grey trousers
PE kit (T shirt & jogger)

Heckythump1 · 03/05/2023 19:36

I make sure we have one full set for each day.... we don't wear PE kit on PE days at our school, they change at school (although, they don't change for PE in reception at all). Just means there's always a set available if I haven't managed to do washing for some reason.
They also do get especially filthy in reception, so we pretty much needed a new everything each day. Now in Year 2, we generally get a couple of days out of cardi/skirt/pinnie etc
Mainly the cheap supermarket cardi's and just one logo sweatshirt for photo days etc.

Pressthespacebar · 30/08/2023 20:45

I get 5 of everything, then in a Sunday night I can get it all hung up and ready for the week.

DiscoBeat · 30/08/2023 21:43

We've always had 5 x trousers and 5x shirts, plus 3 sweaters. One new blazer, one second hand one in case they lose it and two ties.
