Primary Schools in High Wycombe and Hughenden Valley

Hi,

Im moving to the area from Kent shortly ( looking at houses both on Penn side of high wycombe, Hughenden Valley and surrounding areas tomorrow!) and i am bring my 1 year old baby.

I am of course looking at primary schools as it will creep up on me really quickly and it really makes a difference. So i wondered what the latest views are on quality schools?

Id love to find somewhere creative, am drawn to forest school offerings, but dont want to neglect the academic side.

I have reached out to some lovely looking primary schools who say they sometimes take children from out of area if they have space available, so id love to hear all your opinions of all the local primary schools.

Of course its too early to say what my son’s aptitude will be like ( i just want him to be happy and would home school if thats where he does best) but i would also like to give him the best start possible and want to think about it now.

In case he turns out to be quite academic, do children from ‘good’ schools pass the 11plus? Or should i just be aiming for ‘outstanding’ ones ?

If they dont have to wear ties that would be a bonus, ive never understood the need to put a four year old in a necktie 🤣

Be gentle, im a new first time Mum and will be new to the area. Thanks for all your advice in advance! 🥰

Hi,
I know the area and some schools here although my eldest is a girl so my choice was a girls school and you said youre looking for your son, so I can only suggest what I hear from friends. Many applied to Cedar Park, Great Kingshill, Little Kingshill, Highworth, Widmer End , HUghenden

Cedar Park (ofsted “good”) has a pool and choice of good extracurricular activities .

Great Kingshill (ofsted “good”)school has a great ethos and lovely staff but a class size of 50 kids. They do separate activities like some kids on the carpet and some doing stuff at tables but share a room between 50 kids.

From the private ones, there’s Godstowe which is highly recommended but I personally haven’t looked around yet .

Ah thank you so much! I will have a look at those. 50 in one class doesnt sound good though. When i was little, I went to a school where there was 30 in one class and remember thinking that was bad enough! 🙂
