Hi All,

A few questions:

  1. How are parents notified of the results? Email, post or call?
  2. Does anyone have the leavers destination from 2019 onwards, I could only find the 2014 - 2018 results on their website, but only accessed through a search engine, and not from navigating within their website.

Good luck to all parents going through the 2023 assessments (for Sep 2024 reception entry).

Hi. I think its via email that they inform you about the outcome of assessment.
I dont have leavers destination for few years ago but when parents asked in coffee morning about the percentage of pupils who left school to KCS specifically, Mr Forbes (headteacher) said for the last 3 years, it has been somewhere between 20-30 (out of 65) each year. We are having our assessment next Thursday. All the best to everyone who is aiming for Squirrels.

Thanks for the reply @Funskill I heard that they will let us know within 24 hours after the assessment on Thu, which is a quick turnaround and avoid a long anxious wait. I heard it was short notice to revert back to 3+, rather than 4+, and they were aware that many boys were already holding offers and deposits were due soon.

I am quite suprised they dont publish a breakdown of leavers destination anymore. 20-30/65 is an amazing percentage and a great advertising tool. I even messaged KCJS, but they did not hold any data on the feeder schools.

All the best to your son this Thu.

@KitKat789 great! I think we will accept too. Yes we've been offered a place for reception entry 2024.

Hello mum,

My son is appearing for the WCPS assessment in Feb next year. Would be great to know what happens in the assessment and what do they look for ?

3rascalsmum · 13/05/2023 08:45

@Wimbledonmum19 my son did the assessment in March and it was for him more like a play group without a familiar adult. It lasted around 30minutes and when I picked him up they were all sitting in a circle waiting for the parents. In the room they had different play areas set-up (train tracks, dinosaurs, book area). Not sure how they assess but my son came out happy and seems to enjoy the experience.

Hiya, well done those who got places! I’m looking at 2025 intake and just wondered which nurseries your children went to and whether it makes a difference? Thanks

KitKat789 · 15/07/2023 15:25

I was in a local nursery, but after speaking to a 3+, 4+ entry consultant, we moved nurseries based on what they told us to look for. We did notice a stark difference in his behaviour, which I believe is a deciding factor at the assesment day, especially if you are 2 working parents so your son could potentially spend up to 50 hours a week at nursery. We also had assesments with the consultant, which highlighted weeknesses and what to focus on at home.

Thank you. That’s really interesting. My son is currently at Dicky Birds queens road and we had been advised to send him to the castle nursery. I’m really reluctant to do this because the hours are extremely incompatible if both parents work (which we do), but don’t want him to miss out because of that! Are you able to share which nursery your child went to and maybe also the details of this consultant? Thank you so much.

Hi we have been offered a place in reception too for 2024. We live quite far so scared about commute and friends etc. can anyone ease my mind x

Herewegoagain84 · 30/01/2024 15:19

@Northerner123 not Squirrels, but we have turned down prestigious 7+ places for this exact reason. You get swept up / think it’s the be all and end all to go to XYZ school, but once the practicalities hit it’s an entirely different matter. A tiny child needs a school close by, with friends nearby for play dates, and time to play or do other activities after school - rather than commute. There is so much time for all of that later on. Do you have closer options?
