dd is 4 and in reception. Her last school report wasn't that good and this one isn't either - although at least it's been acknowledged that she's made progress, she's still down as 'below expectations' in writing and maths. I am not sure about the bit which says, 'I would like to see dd being more independent in all aspects of her life so that she learns about taking responsibility and being accountable for her words and actions. She can change for PE herself but this must be carried through in all she does in order to continue to make progress'.
Is this just a way of saying her behaviour in class is disruptive, without being deliberately naughty (she does have problems with concentration)? I will see the teacher but next week is half term, so I wondered if anyone had any thoughts in the meantime?

sounds like fancy wording to me!! below expectations is so out of order especially for a 4 year old sorry not much help, and all aspects of her life comment is a bit strange, i think reports at this age are pointless other than to upset the parents

I would expect this to be the result of conversations like this with the teacher

"paddingtoncub, why did you pour water over the desk?"

"Emily told me to..."

If I had written that I would mean that she needs adult help to stay on task else she doesn't get anything donw and yes maybe she is alittle disruptive....why not ask the teacher

Is she summer born?

cazzybabs · 08/02/2008 21:38

RustyBear - yes that thought sprung to my mind too...

They really wrote that for a 4 year old?

Everyday I get closer and closer to HEing

Hallgerda · 08/02/2008 21:41

Might not be disruption - could be just sitting there doing very little. DS3 used to do that. The teacher sounds very sensible.

Have you looked at the dreamers' thread?

Below expectations is below her age group, more independent in all aspects means the teacher is having to nag her to do things, the responsibility thing means that she does not own up when she is up to mischief, the rest of it pretty much means that the teacher has to be on her case constantly to make sure she is doing what she should be doing. I wouldn't worry, it sounds like she's a normal 4 year old. Her teacher sounds like a bit of a witch, my son's teacher said exactly the same about him when he was in reception. He's highly gifted. You need to watch out for your daughter becoming anxious or depressed, if this is the opinion they have of her then it's not a good sign.

thanks all, yes I will see the teacher after half term. She is summer born, July bday, and she's always been 'young' for age as well ifswim?

not sure about being a dreamer, although she does have a good imagination and plays with her toys for ages... she often doesn't sit still much at home though, so if she's like it at school could be a nightmare for the teacher..

Have just read the dreamers thread, thanks for the link - some of it sounds just like dd!
