Messed up school application

Absolutely panicking about this. Although it's pointless because I can't do anything about it now. I applied for our choice of primary schools before the closing date. Today I was chatting to a neighbour and they mentioned about having to send proof of address for the application. I checked online and she was correct, but I didn't send it. I don't know how I missed the information about sending proof of address but I did. I've had so much going on (marriage breakdown and terminally ill father) I somehow missed reading that bit. According to the LA website, even though I applied way before the closing date, it will be treated like a late application. I'm so upset with myself and I've given myself yet another thing to be stressing over.

I can't understand why people are so confused. Clearly some areas do this and some don't.

Seems like a really good idea to me. It will make it more complicated for people to use in laws addresses etc so will discourage people from doing it. It seems a more streamlined way than asking at the other end.

I don't get why people don't understand either.

I was confused because it doesn't seem fair to me to effectively reject an application due to lack of proof of address without chasing.

(I also don't really understand why they can't just ask for council tax number or some such on the application, that would surely catch 95% of applicants. Or allow submitting a photo of the proof with the application, most people would do that these days if they could, then have to click a very big box confirming you will send separately if you don't.)

However it is years since I applied for a school, so no doubt things have changed.

If you call tomorrow I’d be staggered if they can’t help you out.
hopefully they’ll say “not to worry at all can you just email it to x and I’ll attach it to the application”.

council staff can sometimes be jobsworths but I don’t think they are generally in the business of not giving their children a place at the chosen school because of a minor admin cockup. Of course if they chased it and you still didn’t provide that would be different.

I understand why they want proof of address but it sounds like this is designed to trip people up.

Sorry op, I hope this doesn't affect your child's school place.
