hi, any news on offers or reserve?

We have offers from City and Highgate. Didn’t get Latymer, quite surprised.

bstrong0805 · 30/01/2023 16:01

We got City, but reserve list on Highgate. Also quite surprised.

wonderwahl · 30/01/2023 16:31

@Lary27 @bstrong0805 congrats ! we are on reserve. do you plan to accept? I wonder if reserves move at all?

bstrong0805 · 30/01/2023 16:45

I am sure the reserves will move, I know so many kids with multiple offers and they can only take one at the end of the day! Question is more on when it moves and if you need to put down a deposit before that somewhere else.

Lary27 · 30/01/2023 16:51

I know a boy who declined City today and confirmed his place at Highgate. Leaning more towards Highgate too so reserve list will definitely move unless they over-offered.

We have been offered City. We are planning on going to one of the parent offer holder events this week but are minded to accept. We didn’t apply to Highgate or Latymer.

bstrong0805 · 31/01/2023 13:11

@AegeanBlue Do you have a boy or girl ? We have a very sporty and outdoory boy and while I love City, I am wondering if it will be right for him.
@Lary27 is this the reason the family you knew chose Highgate or was it distance / logistics or something else?

Schooldecisions2023 · 31/01/2023 13:50

Love City so veering that way due to the quality of the Head and the Snr School.

Schooldecisions2023 · 31/01/2023 13:55

I really like Highgate Jnr but not convinced about the Snr (I know a lot of kids there) but everyone’s experience is different and I think we all have to go with our gut. One school will be right for one child and a different one for another. So don’t be too swayed by other people.

City is a great school. The senior school has an impressive track record.
This particular boy just fell in love with Highgate and the parents were impressed by the facilities.

I have a boy and he is also sporty. Having been to one of the coffee mornings this week I’m satisfied they will do plenty of PE and sports. There were wellies outside every class room they are clearly using the grass for break and lunch to get outdoors.

The major difference is in practice I think probably more at secondary - less matches every Saturday. However my children play competitive sports locally at the weekend so I’m not focussed on this.

Schooldecisions2023 · 01/02/2023 15:29

Loved City for my sporty boy too. Girls at SH and NLCS so very spread out but think it’s worth it!

wonderwahl · 01/02/2023 16:16

anyone has views on latymer pls?

@Schooldecisions2023 thank you for your feedback. Can I ask if you child is at CJS or the senior school ? I am not getting much feedback on CJS as it is newer so would love to know more. I am convinced City Senior School will be great!

Schooldecisions2023 · 01/02/2023 18:08

Sorry @bstrong0805 I just meant that I’m convinced it will be good for him to join this Sept. I was very impressed by the City Jnr Head (more so than the Heads of our other options) and really think that believing in the Head is really important when choosing a school.

user241565 · 01/02/2023 19:27

@Schooldecisions2023 totally agreed - I found the school super warm and 'normal' :)

Schooldecisions2023 · 01/02/2023 19:41

@user241565 yes and not at all arrogant which for me is very appealing but I do strongly feel (having been in the school system for a while and with two older girls in different schools) that it’s about the fit of the child for the school.

For us that’s City for my 7 year old son. There are very bright kids in most schools so I’m not super swayed by ranking but I take close note of the Head as s/he obviously sets the tone for the whole school. Advice: go for a school who’s Head you believe in.
