Keep DC home on Strike Days?

What's the appropriate thing to do? I have the option of keeping DC home from school on the days. School haven't informed us of their plans yet but have told us that they will do their best to remain open.

I do support the strikes and want to do what will support to the teachers with the most impact. Is that sending DC in so that governments/schools actually feel the pain of the strikes or keep them home as a mark of 'respect' to those striking?

If school are trying to remain open I’d do the best for your son and send him into school. Have school said that you can keep him home without it affecting his absence record?

If schools are open you’ll be expected to send them in.

If they’re partially open for those that need it it’s up to you really - I’d suspect in these cases it will very much be childcare rather than teaching. I can see both viewpoints here, but in this case I’d choose not to send them in if I had alternative options because it makes life harder for the non-striking staff (probably lots of TAs among the non-striking teachers). I get what people are saying about it having more of a knock on effect if more kids go in, but I’m not sure who would really benefit from this TBH!

Massive respect to schools still trying to keep their gates open. Hopefully kids will stay kids, have a fun day doing less work. They don't need to worry about the grown-up stuff.

We are keeping our child home. If the schools do remain open, it will be with reduced staff. And I feel we don't need to add to their work, since we work from home and can keep our child home. We also support teacher pay rise.

The schools remaining open will either have few staff in the striking union or will be replacing striking staff with TAs or supply staff.

If the latter is true, the school is disrespecting its employees’ right to strike by making them replaceable.

I am striking because of the impact of funding on our children, the detrimental effects on the future of the teaching profession and the feeling of ‘enough is enough’ in terms of what we are expected to do above and beyond our contractual hours and commitments without remuneration.
