Nits

We have a huge not problem in our school, and I have suggested that we have a Nit Busting Campaign, where every fmily gets a free bug busting kit (paid for by the PTFA) and we send notes home getting everyone to comb on the same nights for a fortnight, followed by a weekly reminder from them on. I know there will be people who ignore the letter and it won't be 100% effective, but what do people think of it as an idea? And what problems do people expect us to have?

I think it is worth a try.

But as you have said, not everyone will do it and it will be those people who will no doubt have them.

But I suppose trying anything may help the situation.

If you do it, let us know how you get on.

make sure its a nitty gritty comb. I also found putting the conditioner (I bought tesco own cheapest tee tree stuff) onto dry hair, then combing, then washing, just as effective but far less hassle than the wash first way.

Offer to help people do their children after school if they find it hard?????

hi i wish someone had done this at dds nursery. we had nits in the house for 6 weeks straight. Nursery said they were not allowed to do anything so I got p***ed off and wrote a note to all the parents basically saying that someone had nits and werent dealing with them. The next day the health visitor connected with the nursery came and gave a talk on how to get rid of them and from then on dd has been nit free. All it takes is for one parent to not do it and everyone is infecsted again. Hiorrible little buggers.

Good idea seeker to aid the clean up , but it does seem to be a knotty problem for some people. We had recurring infestations and the culprit mother who insisted her children could not have nits "because they come from a good home and only working class children get nits". I was trying to frame a reply to this one when her best mate turned to her and said "that's the biggest load of crap I ever heard, your kids are causing it all, do something you silly cow".
!!!!

On a terrible negative one mother my niece knows took offence at hints her children had nits and shaved her children's heads (5 and 7 years old) and they turned up to school bald the next day. Children's friend's mother now quietly takes them home occasionally to play and wash their hair before they return home...
