Admissions: sibling- chances if not getting a space

As in the title...I guess it can't ever be certain but am I reasonably safe to assume that my DC2 will be offered a space at DC1 school under the sibling priority?

How big is the school? In dd's admission year the nearest school to us admitted 24 siblings into a 1 form entry school. Wouldn't be a stretch to imagine 6 more potentially being born...

toomuchfaster · 25/11/2022 22:13

What is the order of admission? If in-catchment is before siblings, there's a bigger chance you won't get it.

ShowOfHands · 25/11/2022 22:14

At the school where I work, catchment is the first priority after LAC etc. If you're a sibling out of catchment, you won't get in. For 4 years, nobody out of catchment has got in, sibling or otherwise.

My DS has a sibling at the school AND I teach there. He won't get in.

UWhatNow · 25/11/2022 22:22

You need to look at the admissions policy of the school. Most schools prioritise siblings but you won’t know for sure unless you look. See the school website.

Smogtopia · 25/11/2022 22:29

My borough no longer has sibling priority
And I'm so pleased. So many people move but sibling priority meant children one minute walk from the school were being declined one year it was madness.

Have you moved since your eldest started at the school?

Thank you. There is no catchment, PAN is 90 and admissions criteria is 1. LAC 2. Staff children 3. Siblings 4. Any other applicant....I really hope they get in!

What's your concern then if there's no catchment?!

Hellocatshome · 25/11/2022 22:37

Well there's unlikely to be 90 LAC and staff kids so shouldn't be a problem should it?

The odds of there being more than a handful of LACs, a couple of staff children, 2-3 children with the school named on an EHCP and other siblings taking the first three ranks up to more than 90 is pretty minimal.

Smogtopia · 25/11/2022 22:40

Why do I feel a drip feed coming... that OP has moved a significant way away etc

Sounds like they should get in with that admission criteria. I suppose you might be worried if it's a 1 form entry school, you know there are a few staff with children that will be applying and you know that there are a lot of a siblings!!

Have you looked on the county council website? They usually shoe last years school allocations.

For example this is the London borough of Brent:

Buckinghamshire goes back to 2017:

No drip feed! No house move or any other changes, just as it is.

Just needed reassurance that wasn't missing something very obvious! Thank you!

Now to await April to find out!
