Girl/boy at different preps

Hi

Can anyone tell me about their experience of having girls and boys at different schools? I wish there was a co-ed one I liked but I much prefer the single sex schools to the co-ed one near me. I’m worried I’m going to regret it though when I’m rushing to do pick up/drop off! Both schools offer a minibus service from near our home but the timings are different so one arrives 30 mins after the other one. In any case I think we will end up doing a combination of driving there ourselves and using the minibus. On the plus side term dates seem pretty aligned so holidays shouldn’t be an issue. Apparently it’s not uncommon to have brothers and sisters going to these schools but I’ve yet to meet any parents who do this in order to know what it’s like.

From your post it sounds like the schools are close together? I know a few parents who send their children (a boy and 2 girls) to different single sex prep schools and it's fine. You just need to make sure the schools are not "competing" with each other so parents evenings/Christmas services/sports days don't clash

Yes that’s a good point, will check those other dates. Hopefully as they have both said that they have brothers/sisters at the other school they have considered those aspects.

The girls school has a few different sites which means for about 5 years the sites are 10 mins walk away from each other and for 2 years they are a 10 min drive away.

My DSs are at a single-sex prep and many boys have sisters at another local prep. What seems to happen in practice is mum-taxiing with a lot of lift-sharing (parents quickly figure out who else has brothers/sisters at the other school) and minibus service.

Drop-offs don't seem to be an issue at least at these two preps, because there's a 30 min drop-off window at both of them from 7.50-8.20am - I think that's what makes it possible. It's more the end of the day with different year groups finishing at different times, away matches, evening rehearsals, etc.

DS is at a boys school and lots of siblings go to the local girls school. The schools aren’t formally linked but drop off/pick up are done at different times, as are school holidays and Christmas fayres etc. It doesn’t seem to cause big issues for the parents I know.
