Did you get an out of catchment school you put down first? Would like to know the probability of getting it.

I'm basically one road outside of it!

I've just submitted my application today.

@TeenDivided my 2nd and 3rd are both catchment schools. I thought it was better to do that and at least ill have the waitlist to fall back on... I'll call the school then and ask them. Thanks for the tip

I don't know if you saw my post above but there will probably already be a document on your LEA website that tells you the category and distance of the last place offered for all schools.

There'll be a document, possibly on the council's website, which gives the previous year's admission numbers and how many children came under which criteria. We've always applied for catchment school, but both were very oversubscribed and yet both have children out of catchment in them.

Nobody will be able to answer this as there are so many variable factors to others who may be applying:

How many are looked after children?
How many are EHCP?
How many are a sibling?
How many are within catchment?

You could look at the data from your LA for the Sept 22 intake, although the numbers that fall into the above categories are likely to be different. They should, however, give you a tiebreaker distance if the last place was allocated on distance.

My DD started reception this September and we were repeatedly told "it is a low birth year." Two of my NCT group did not get their first choice of school.

DD's school has a PAN of 60. 31 of the places this year went to a sibling, which meant that the last places were allocated on by tiebreaker distance. We got in, but our NCT friend didn't, despite being in catchment. (We are not inner city).

I think providing you have put at least 1 school down you have a reasonable chance of getting then you should be okay. People think they get to choose their school. You don't. You are just saying which school you would prefer for your child to be educated at.

@FreshCop
Beingca governor is really not what you describe. They have a duty to ensure the school has as a strategic plans in place and one of those is often community engagement. It certainly isn’t just reading and agreeing documents. Governors are strategic leadership in schools.

PTA is there to raise money. Getting one up and running isn’t easy but is worthwhile. A second hand uniform shop would be a great start but a pta doesn’t absolve the school from its community role.
