I’m starting to suspect my DD is dyslexic. Reading has come slowly to her, and she’s only barely met reading expectations with a LOT of work at home and some 1:1 reading intervention at her old school. We’ve moved recently, and she’s now in year 3. Although fluency has improved, progress is painfully slow. She reads at a pace of about 60 words per minute, and jumbles up words often - especially small words like a, to, what, there, get, from etc. And she also guesses a lot of bigger words and so “already” becomes “always” and that sort of thing. She often has to read a sentence twice to get it right. I know she’s only been at her new school for a month but I feel badly that I’ve disrupted her education by moving schools (no choice). I feel like we’re starting all over again and I’m wondering if I should bring all this to the teacher’s attention right away. She went from a class of 17 to 31 and I’m just worried her struggles will be overlooked, or that it will take awhile for it to be noticed. What is the right way to go about getting her extra help?
