I'm a proud Mummy but I am not boasting. That okay?

My DD is 4 and can read exceptionally well. I asked the teacher if she could bring more than 2 books home a week as she is reading her brother's as well as loads of home books. She said she is so good with her reading they don't know what to do with her!! They have decided to send her home with longer books so she can read it over 2-3 nights. I know my daughter, she'll want to read it all in one go!

Blimey you're lucky - DS is stuck with his 2 books a week for now... it is really annoying him as he reads them (perfectly) within 2 nights and then has 5 left with books he knows...

I wish DSs teacher was like yours!

It has taken a while.

Haven't looked in her book bag yet for what she has brought home. She said nothing as she read it at school.

Well I had a surprise - DS is on a trial with the next level (I think he will manage it fine having looked at it) but at least it is progress!

Well done for your DD

ChasingSquirrels · 25/01/2008 19:45

longer ones with chapters or even better short stories that carry through are best as you have a specific stopping point, but can read more than one if they want to.
Well done your dd - it is lovely seeing it come together isn't it, ds still suprises me when he reads out signs in shops etc.
Am a bit at the teacher saying they don't know what to do with her though - she is 4 and they preumably teach upto 11! If they really don't know what to do with her they have serious problems.

ChasingSquirrels · 25/01/2008 19:46

not at you - at the teacher.

edam · 25/01/2008 19:53

aw, well done NAB's dd, you have every right to be proud.

chankins · 25/01/2008 19:57

Well done you and your dd !
My dd is reading well too, and it shocks me every time we start a book. I keep writing in her record that she could do with going up another level but so far no response. She loves it though, that is the main thing.
A love of books is such a great thing !

ChasingSquirrels

DD's teacher was my son's TA 2 years ago and this is her first year as a qualified teacher. TBH I wasn't worried by her comment as she said it in such a way that she was proud of her and I know DD is top for lots of things. Her teacher has told me that she is the superstar for certain things. I need to look in her book bag and what I am going to do is listen to her more as she always has a pile of books next to her and she reads to herself a lot.

She started reading her brother's key words at two and a half. I always had my nose in a book as a child as I was so unhappy all the time it gave me comfort. I am glad DD likes reading for its own sake.

thats good then

I have written a strong message in her contact book. A note from the teacher says she can only have 2 books from school a week but she can read what she wants at home and have a library book whenever she wants. She has brought home the same book again, no library book for days and to add insult to injury a note is in the bag asking for a game back as other children would like to enjoy it as much as they are sure DD did. I sent the bloody thing back at 9.15 on Friday as I had forgetten it at 8.45 and the teacher knew that. Second time I have had a note like that when we have sent the game back,
