The Year 3 classes have just been given the login details for this and DS(7) is supposed to answer 8 questions like those attached within 20 minutes. It’s an assessment before it then caters to his ability (but I’ve no idea what this website actually offers yet).

Now, DS is drastically behind in his reading ability and possibly has dyslexia, so it took him about 15 mins to read the first question. He was very frustrated reading it and when we went to the next question he just flipped.

I’ve emailed the teacher to ask if these questions are correct as to me the content and style of writing seems aimed at a much older age group?

It’s definitely no Biff, Chip & Kipper! However as my child is so far behind perhaps the children reading at the expected book level for Year 3 could easily read these. I will say though that DS could answer the question easily so his comprehension was fine.

It says Grade 4 (age 9/10) and Grade 3 (age 8/9) next to the questions. I assume it's the pre-assessment to check the child's Lexile level. If your DS is already behind then, yes, these will be way too hard.
I teach Grade 3 and would expect my more able readers to cope...with some encouragement. I wouldn't give them to my weaker ones. There should be an option to indicate the year group when setting this up, though. UK Year 3 tends to equate to Grade 2. Perhaps the teacher got this mixed up and has put the assessment benchmark too high?
