Do you think there is any hope of winning an appeal if I move to a new area (3 hours away) and want to get my child into Y1 of a full school?

Moving in the summer is causing me a huge amount of angst. DD1 is currently in reception and we'll need to find her a Y1 place for September.

I feel like the area we buy a house in is going to be determined by where there is a school with free places! It seems ludicrous and unfair. We either live where we don't want to live just to get a school place or we live where we want to live and have to drive DD a few miles to school and back twice a day!

If we moved to a village with its own village school, would we have much chance of winning an appeal to use that school? I'm thinking not.

Are you moving because you have to or because you want your child to go to a specific school or are you happy with the school they are at now but have to move?

I would doubt it very much if there was another option nearish by. Have a look at the LEA's website and see what their admissions policy is.

We're moving because my DH has a new job to start in that area in September. We're perfectly happy with the school she is currently attending but we will all be moving since the new job is several counties away from here.

How long would it take you to drive her to school each day?

It all depends on what other schools are nearby and whether they have places or not. If I were you I'd do the house hunting and once you have found somewhere you like then contact the school directly to find out about the local situation. Where I live there is a shortage of reception places, but the neighbouring village school is not very popular and always has places available so appeals rarely succeed (except for SN).

check out the lea website and see what their policy is for transport for under 8's, if you can not get your child into your village school then you might find that transport is provided to the nearest place available...but definetly appeal(as you have nothing to lose and it might be successful?)

good luck
