Teacher only teaching class for morning. TA in afternoon. Is this acceptable?

My Dd goes to a local prep school, She is going into y1 in September. Her class teacher is the head of pre prep and I’ve just found out from another mum (which is another point of contention, they don’t even bother telling us this stuff) that the teacher will only be taking the class in the morning and after lunch she will be off doing her head stuff and the class will be taken by a TA. I can’t get my head around this. Apparently the TA is qualified to teacher level but isn’t a teacher per se (not sure why). Am I being ridiculous to think that this is an issue or is it a common situation. No disrespect to the TA, but we are stretching ourselves to pay for this school and to expect the class teacher to teach the class all day doesn’t seem unreasonable at this age. Thoughts?

Just to add some balance - I work in a small prep school and every teacher is qualified, except the French teacher (who is a native speaker and has been teaching 15 years). Although private schools CAN employ non qualified teachers, most don’t! It may be more common in senior schools where good subject knowledge trumps teaching qualifications in some peoples eyes.

not ideal that the TA is teaching every afternoon, but as above it could be specialists (music, languages, sport) teachers, with the TA registering and dismissing - this happens in my school. Also some state schools use TAs/HLTAs extensively due to teacher shortages and budget cuts - it’s not unique to private schools.

My ex boyfriend is now teaching at a very prestigious school with a name known all over the world.
He was in the army for a bit and then ran a travel company.
He now teaches geography and is a house master.
Take from this what you will.
