Forest School

DD starts reception in September and the school has a forest school.

Do I need to be buying waterproof trousers etc for forest school? I've looked on the school website, but doesn't say anything about what is required.

Mine do it once a week. We have to send them in old clothes (tracksuit bottoms and tshirt and trainers) and send a puddlesuit and wellies in a separate bag so they can put them on if need be.

It very much depends what the set-up is and how they use it. In a lot of schools now, "forest school" is a mud kitchen and seating circle at the bottom of the playing field, and the kids rotate a couple of hours per week in it. If it's bucketing down it doesn't get as much use.

At our school the kids go in on forest school days in old clothes that can get dirty, and waterproofs if appropriate, but it's fairly hands-on and messy there.

Waterproof over-trousers are always useful to have though - loads on eBay - so it might be worth getting a pair now, when there's no urgency and you can keep an eye out for some cheap ones. Lidl do good waterproofs too actually.

Ours do forest school once a week on the same day they do PE so they go in PE kit and school provide water proof dungarees if it's cold/wet.

To add, we have similar ones at home and use them pretty much daily during the winter months so nothing lost if you get them and don't need them.
