Does getting Exceptional Academic Performance award means your dc is one of the pupils with the best results/top student??

Id imagine it means they've done very well. Is it a primary award? If so may not be the best student/top student but definitely very good! (Eg our school wouldn't let one child win more than 1 award, qnd wouldnt nec give to the highest scores. ) yourenot going to get exceptional achievement without being exceptional though.

I take it its your child?

As the title of the award says, the recipient of the award must have performed exceptionally in academics, I think.

Congrats! Well done. Yes, that award is typically only given to DC's that are in the top 10% of the class.

Depends if it's "exceptional" for the child or for the school.

I'd say it depends on the school... for some schools it will be one of the highest achievers, for others it might be someone who has improved a lot. If you know your child is bright I'd assume the first option.

What does top student even mean? In our primary it meant a child who works at an individual exceptional performance for them ,regardless of their grade. Someone who continuously tries their hardest, this doesn't automatically mean they have higher grades.

At my primary is was normally awarded to the top scoring pupil... but sometimes it was awarded to someone who had improved massively or had a particularly notable success. I remember in my sisters form it once went to a lad who was normally bottom (when you had form positions) by miles but worked really hard that year and came second to bottom.

Yes they have performed exceptionally academically so top of class / year in academic subjects, possibly considered gifted? My dd's primary has just had a year 6 leavers awards ceremony, there was a big silver cup for this, and the child chosen to receive the award is according to my dd "the smartest person in the whole year and comes top of everything". I recognised the girl who won the award from photos the school put in the end of year newsletter / email, and she's always been top of everything academically since infants. My dd was in a class with her a few times over the years and even back in reception she was very advanced in reading, writing, cursive handwriting, maths, even at that age she was known for being top of everything by the kids and parents. That's continued throughout the rest of primary. I wonder if she's what is seen as gifted, in my day those seriously high achieving children would get moved up a year to challenge them more but I don't think schools do that these days? If it's your child who won the award op then congrats!
