My child was in F2a, year 1a but for year 2, we just found out he is in year 2C (the school he attends splits a year group into a,b,c) does anybody know if this means anything or is it just splitting kids by age and class sizes

KS1 is literally just year one and year 2. Any extra letters or numbers or names are particular to your school and different schools split classes differently. Most likely it is completely random.

It’s hard to know what your school does. Is it three form entry? Sounds like it might be if there are three Year 2 classes. The children will just have been split into 3 classes with a maximum of 30 children in each class. It would be very unlikely that they would be split by ability.

In my school classes are named after their year and the name of th class teacher. So my class are 5G, the others are 5A and 5E for example. Classes are mixed ability/age/sex etc.

My class would come last in any list, because my name is last in alphabetical order of the Year 5 teachers.

You need to ask your school, there is no one way of splitting the classes.

Just splitting the forms probably! My kids school is 2 form and the classes are a and b but ask if you are unsure
