My DD has been offered our 3rd choice. Pretty disappointed, but not too surprised.

I also applied to a neighbouring borough, so will wait and see.

A gutted to be honest!

Anyone else?

I think that there is an element of that but I also think that there is a large change in profile of some areas in Herts, I am particularly thinking of Borehamwood which is becoming much more popular with m/c families who are particularly fussy over where they will and won't accept. There are pockets in the part of herts that I know where people want the schools and areas where they won't touch them so the fight for the percieved good schools goes on. There is definately a drop in the number of parents going private, over the last couple of years its been possible to get reception places at Radlett Prep and Manor Lodge as late as the summer holiday which was unheard of previously. I also know of parents who are pulling older children out of private so getting a place in say, year 3 and then getting the sibling place in the lower year.

If you are Borehamwood, I know of a good number of people from Borehamwood who have got places at St John's, Radlett which has an excellent reputation at the last minute and none of them are even christian so that may be worth finding out about if you could get there.

what a sensible post from mummyeme

can i add that i am in st albans and the school reputations/results change all the time

two schools local to us had mixed reputations a couple of years ago and one was on special measures - both are now excellent with fab staff and kids - it can all change

my dd goes to a school with a good local reputation and ofsted (lucky us) BUT it is not proving ideal for every child - nowhere is perfect - there has been some bullying - resolved i think, and a lot of staff illness and cover - no where is perfect and you may find that schools in special measures are actually trying a lot harder with the pupils than others that may rest on their laurels a bit

dd started last year, we knew 6 children on the waiting list for her school and they were all eventually offered a place.a bit nail biting for the parents though.

We had to submit applications last September and we don't hear until March 2nd! What on earth are they doing with them?
