Sorry should have probably posted this in products put thought I may get more response here in the school section. My children love a large range of coloured felts and colour all the time but unfortunately the range we usually buy have stopped. Where can I get some aprox 40 colours in a reasonable quality. Used to buy chad valley from woolworths but they now only seem to stock their own cheap ones and my ds split the nib after first use! What do your dc's use and what do you recommend.

Gave up on cheap ones years ago, just not worth the hassle/ always leaking/breaking/ running out!

Now we buy berol pens, used to get them in WHS for £4.49 for 12 but get them online from costcutters for about £2.50 instead.

crayola - "superwashable" ones pricey but worth it. elc are good too, but not just as easy to wash out

indamb · 17/01/2008 17:17

crayola only ones i allow, other non washable ruined my dinning table.

We always buy quality felt tips - berol or crayola or Staedtler. I often stock up at Woolworths in August as they usually have good back-to-school offers.

Cheap felt-tips (the ones you get in packs of 40+) are generally rubbish IMO.

It has to be Berol in this house too but if your children are still quite "little" - I might be tempted to wait until you are confident they'll put the lids on!

for cheapy pens try ELC, they have 100 pens in very very handy plastic bucket with a handle, for £5...
The bucket did it for me!

Tescos did a great selection in sets of 30, really cheap and lasted for yonks. Worth a look.

Check that the cheaper ones are "washable" (or however they describe it) though -quite often the cheap ones aren't.

chloesmumtoo · 31/01/2008 09:55

thats a good point, we know what these kids are like

Crayola are super washable.

I got DS (now 5) a pack of Staedtler feltpens for Christmas last year (2006) - and they are still going strong despite all that he can do to them. They are chunky and have a near triangular cross section so are easy to hold - and the tips are spring loaded so they can''t be pushed in - or at least they spring back out again. I haven't tested their washability because I watch DS like a hawk when he has them. They are brilliant!
