Changing phonics systems

My DS has learned all of his letter sounds in his Nursery class using Twinkl phonics. He will be changing school for reception and the new school uses Jolly Phonics. We played a YouTube video yesterday and all of the letter songs are different and he disputed every one of them! I feel bad for him and also a bit worried that it might be confusing for him. Should I be concerned?

No.

No- he will learn the new system quickly enough.

No. Usually phonics at nursery is more about enjoying words and getting used to hearing different sounds which means kids aren't exposed to two different schemes when they hit reception.

But he will just go along with the class and his new teacher once he's there. Don't worry about playing him the Jolly Phonics songs, let him do the Twinkl ones (didn't realise Twinkl had their own scheme!) and then let the teacher introduce the new scheme with everyone else in class.

Don't get into the mindset that doing things in a slightly different way from how he is used to doing them is going to create upset. You need to demonstrate flexibility and embracing change/difference or you are setting him up for difficulty.

Honestly, most people wouldn't give this a thought.

This is reassuring thanks
