Teachers what does it mean if child is under close supervision?

DS was sent to teachers common room today (for duties as other kids often do) and saw his name on the board saying he was under "close supervision". His name was there along with a boy who spits all the time and he was a bit upset and asked me what it meant. Anyone know what this means?

I've been pushing to have him referred for DCD assessment but been told they "don't have time" as he's moving to secondary in September so don't think it's related.

Sometimes we're asked to keep an eye on particular children in the playground. It can be for any number of reasons:

  • child has been having difficulties with another child
  • parent has reported that a child has been finding playtime difficult
  • child has been having a tough time and might need an extra smile or someone to chat to
  • child has been feeling ill or is particularly prone to having accidents
  • child has been struggling with behaviour and we want to see if there are any particular triggers, eg are other children deliberately winding them up to get the child in trouble
  • child is new and might not know their way around
