What do you/have you looked for in a primary school? DH and I have just completed the forms for DD to go to school in September as has my friend for her DS. Our opinions of what constitutes a 'good' school differ massively and we are both a bit shocked at the choices we have made, as neither of us consider our choices to be suitable (not mine and DH, mine and my friend's).

Not sure DS will def start in Sept, might still HEd, but our 1st choice on the forms is the least popular school in town.

It is known for taking children with SN, it is in the less wealthy area of the town (although not a bad area at all), it is the school that accepts children from travelling families when they are in town. It also has the highest added value scores although not the highest sats results, but people don't talk about that .

These are reasons people openly give for not considering it and they are some of the reasons why we have put it at number 1 on our form.

The head was friendly and open, felt we could talk to him about anything at any time. The head at the most popular school in town was quite the opposite.

Horses for courses I suppose.
